Al Dhaher Mosque

Location  Al RustaqSultanate of Oman.

Design Year: 2026.

A mosque — but on an unusually shaped and limited plot of land — located in Al Awabi, in the city of Rustaq, Sultanate of Oman, within an agricultural setting. The mosque was designed on an area of approximately 90 square meters, bordered on both sides by irrigation aflaj channels.

As shown here, the site consists of two parts: a larger section oriented toward the qibla, and a smaller, narrow adjoining section. The design therefore responded directly to the functional requirements: a mosque preceded by a courtyard or central open space, overlooking a seating area for the villagers to gather, converse, and exchange news. Above it rises a roof whose details were inspired by the form of palm fronds abundant in the palm trees surrounding the mosque.

The smaller part of the site accommodates the bathrooms and ablution area, while the minaret is positioned at the junction connecting the two parts of the land, emphasizing the mosque entrance and guiding the movement of worshippers.

A simple minaret, a simple building — no ornamentation, no domes, no arches.
