Adam Mosque

The city is located in the Omani desert and borders the desert region in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate of the Sultanate of Oman.

This comprehensive(congregational) mosque is designed with solid blocks to protect itself from the sun's effects. The building blocks are arranged in a simple, ascending manner, with Quranic verses inscribed at the top. The arrangement creates a symmetrical line towards the Qibla, embodying the fundamental identity of mosques in its design (entrance gate, courtyard, prayer hall, mihrab, other services, and the women's prayer area aligned with the Qibla).

Since there is no historical tradition of domes in Omani heritage (except in the Jalaan region), the design excludes them, as well as arches. Instead, several towers, reminiscent of Omani castle architecture, rise along the mosque’s axes, between side gates or the raised mihrab block.

Finally, the symmetry is broken at the main gate to create a deliberate change. The gate frame rises at the center, balanced by 12 columns (representing the months of the Islamic calendar), with the minaret positioned behind them, bearing the emblem of Islam.
