Masjid Al-Habib bin Rabi

Location: Sohar in the Sultanate of Oman.

Design Year: 2026

Project Type:  Religious

Status
: Under Design

Architectural Style: Islamic

The mosque is built on a 1,300 m² site with a total built-up area of 800 m². It includes a main prayer hall for 170 worshippers, a women’s prayer hall for 33 worshippers, and a 280 m² multipurpose hall. Supporting facilities comprise retail units, ablution areas, restrooms, the imam’s residence, a mortuary washing room, and a central courtyard.

The design draws inspiration from traditional Omani earthen architecture, characterized by simple triangular motifs. Palm fronds serve as a key visual reference, generating geometric patterns across the façade and crowning the minaret.

The mosque massing is composed of interlocking cubic volumes, reflecting the fabric of traditional Omani settlements. Natural light enters through a roof opening above the mihrab, while wooden shading elements filter sunlight within the courtyard. Domes were intentionally excluded in respect of Oman’s architectural heritage.
